The Malcolm X Quarterly Scholar
The Quarterly Scholar highlights the academic achievements of El-Shabazz Public School Academy students. The students, based on their academic excellence, are identified by their classroom teachers and receive quarterly recognition in this publication. These students, in our opinion, best exemplify the dedication, discipline, and determination, that the school's namesake, Malcolm X, believed to be the key ingredients to individual and community success.

Mrs. Dornbush's Kindergarten
Assata is such a hard worker! She comes to school prepared to learn and she completes her work accurately. Assata has received A's on all of her math tests. She enjoys participating in all classroom activities and contributes to discussions. She is an excellent listener and she consistently makes quality choices in the classroom. Erik'kies is such a hard worker! He comes to school prepared to learn and he completes his work accurately. Erik'kies continues to show growth daily. Also, he has scored very high on every test! Erik'kies enjoys school and he shows it everyday with a big, happy smile! He is an excellent listener and he consistently makes quality choices in the classroom. Ms. Hersey-Phillips's Kindergarten
Kayla is a very dedicated and hard worker. She continuously tries hard to achieve her best. She comes to school every day and is willing to participate in all activities. She is always focused and on task. She consistently makes good choices and is an excellent role model. Kayla loves to sing and dance. Kayla is a Kindergarten Scholar!!

Sammie is a hard worker and consistently does his best. He makes good choices and helps others to make good choices also. He is willing to participate in all activities and enjoys helping others. Ameer is a very hard worker. He is driven and very focused. He strives to do his best in all his work. He willingly participates in all activities and loves to sing. He enjoys helping others with their work. He consistently makes good choices. Ameer is a Kindergarten Scholar!!
Mrs. Kuchnicki's Kindergarten
LaXavier is an excellent student who stays on task and gives his best effort every day at school. He is often willing to stay at his desk and work longer to achieve a better outcome and quality of his work. He always has a smile on his face and shows good citizenship in the classroom. He participate, is helpful, and a good friend to other students. Laxavier is a student to recognize for his effort, performance, attitude, and participation. I appreciate and applaud the person and student LaXavier is each day in our classroom. Congrats and admiration to LaXavier, way to go!
Savannah is a student I can count on to set the standard for hard work and participation. Savannah will follow directions, stay on task, and be an important example of appropriate behavior in a learning setting. She works hard on her school work independently and is an enthusiastic participant in group settings. Savannah is a delightful student both academically and socially in the classroom. Savannah was very shy and quiet at the beginning of the year and it has been a privilege to watch her come into her own these past few months really coming out of her shell and reaching beyond her quiet comfortable beginning. I am so proud of Savannah for her courage and her progress, way to go Savannah!
Mrs. Craven's First Grade
DeyeaBreon is my first grade quarterly scholar! She comes to school prepared to learn and she completes her work accurately. DeyeaBreon is an excellent reader recognizing sight words on a third grade level. She enjoys participating in all classroom activities and contributes to discussions. She is an excellent listener and she consistently makes quality choices in the classroom. DeyeaBreon offers to help when her work is completed and is able to sit quietly during classroom transitions. She goes above and beyond my expectations. DeyeaBreon is an excellent first grade scholar.
Tanaysha is my first grade quarterly scholar! She is a joy to have in our classroom in every way! Tanaysha is a good friend to her peers and makes excellent choices. She solves her problems peacefully and displays excellent behavior in the classroom. Tanaysha excels in all academic areas, especially reading and math. Mrs. Marciniak's First Grade
Anissa is such a hard worker! She comes to school prepared to learn and she completes her work accurately. Anissa is an excellent reader and she always scores an A+ on her spelling tests. Ms. Bullock's Second Grade
Jordyn, Javon, and Nojac are outstanding students. They have all worked very hard in all subject areas thus far. The gentlemen have received A's on almost every single spelling test and have turned in all their homework. All three are reading above grade level. Jordyn had a perfect writing test. Javon received A's on his writing and social studies tests. Nojac received A's on his reading and social studies tests. All three have A's in math as well. Their work is always neat and on time. Way to go gentlemen! You are all second grade scholars!
MyCaesha, Yasmeen, and Mya have done a wonderful job so far this year. Mya and MyCaesha have A's in math. All three earned A's on their reading and social studies tests. They are terrific spellers and all three are currently reading above grade level. They are terrific writers as well. They have turned in all of their homework assignments so far this year. They also make sure to take their time on all assignments so that they are done neatly and accurately. Way to go ladies! You are second grade scholars!
Ms. Callahan's Second Grade
Anthony has a true enthusiasm for math. He takes pride in his work. Anthony's efforts are reflected in his grades for all subjects. He has A's in math and science this semester. Anthony is reading and taking spelling test at a 4th grade level. Anthony is such a hard worker! Job well done, Anthony!
Jamari is an excellent student. She is excelling in all subjects. Jamari has A's in math and science this semester. She is always on task and ready to learn. Jamari takes pride in the quality of her work. She has turned in all her homework assignments on time. You are doing a great job, Jamari!
Nahson comes to school prepared to learn and he completes his work accurately. He is excelling in math, reading, and writing. Nahson loves to contribute to the classroom and participate in class discussions. Nahson is reading and taking spelling tests on a 5th grade level. Nahson has turned in all of his homework assignments on time. Keep up the excellent work, Nahson!
Lazarya is a very dedicated student. She produces quality work all the time! Lazarya has A's in both math and science this semester. She is reading and taking spelling tests above grade level. Lazarya tries hard everyday. She has turned in all of her homework assignments on time. Keep working hard, Lazarya!
Mrs. Burton's Third Grade
Ebony is working hard and improving everyday! She does an excellent job following directions and that has helped her earn top grades in all subjects. She is definitely a team player and loves to help out her classmates if she is asked to. Ebony is doing a great job scoring top grades on her class work assignments. Ebony has also turned her homework in everyday on time since the beginning of the school year! Ebony is a wonderful scholar to have in class!
Cadiefeye is hard working and improving everyday! Cadiefeye has also passed every spelling test with 100%, and returned his homework on time everyday since the beginning of the school year. He has done an excellent job following directions on his tests on class assignments and has earned top grades in every subject! Cadiefeye has become an example of a great scholar!
Kenneth is a hard worker! He does his best at any activity he is given. He takes his time in making sure he understands what he is working on. Kenneth is a team player who works hard at getting along with his classmates. Kenneth has also passed every spelling test with 100%, and works hard at turning in his homework on time. He has a positive attitude everyday he comes to school and continues to be an excellent scholar!
Ms. Chege's Third Grade
Katonya is a phenomenal student! Academically, she has topped the class in the areas of math, reading, spelling, writing, grammar, science, and social studies. In addition to academics, Katonya is actively involved in Girls' Scout. She goes beyond herself to assist the teacher and other students that may need assistance. While in class, Katonya is keen and pays attention to the rules and regulations. She ensures that all her work is complete accurately and in a timely manner. She is a phenomenal scholar, bravo Katonya!
Ashia is another great student. She has portrayed excellent grade marks in the areas of spelling, math, grammar, and writing. Ashia takes her time to do her work and does not hesitate to ask questions about the written directions. Also, Ashia makes sure she follows rules and reinforces them to her fellow students. This student is always very thoughtful of her fellow classmates. Keep up the great effort Ashia!
Nyreel is yet another intelligent student. He has maintained A's in reading, writing, grammar and spelling. Not only has he excelled academically, he has also thrived in keeping the class rules. Nyreel takes initiative when working in small group activities. He is a natural leader-keep up the excellent work Nyreel!
Mrs. Underhill's Fourth Grade
Jonee is my Malcolm X Scholar. Jonee takes pride in her work and it shows. When she does not understanding an assignment, she does not hesitate to ask me to explain it to her once again. All her assignments, including homework, is presented to me, neatly and correct. It is very unusual for Jonee to receive any grade lower than an A on her assignments. This is due to the fact that Jonee takes notes on every subject that's taught. She shows her notes to her mom and consistently review them through out the week. Jonee has earned the role of Malcolm X Scholar, hands down. Way to go Jonee!
LaJazinea was also chosen for this quarter, Malcolm X Scholar. Jazzy is one of the most intellectual 4th graders I've ever met. Jazzy takes great pride in all of her assignments. She is dedicated, funny, and kind to all. I've never heard anyone speak mean about Jazzy, or mess with her. She is one of Shabazz Academy's favorite student, without a doubt. In between being so popular with the staff and students, Jazzy is teaching herself how to write Japanese. If she is not working on her foreign writing, Jazzy is drawing 3ft persons on paper, and displaying them for others to see. You Rock Jazzy!
Nia is my next Malcolm X Scholar. This is Nia's first year at Shabazz Academy. I am privileged to have her in my class. Nia produce (A+) work on every assignment. She comes to class prepared to learn & to share information she has already learned. Nia is reading, writing, well beyond her grade level. If one of her assignments is not to her standard, Nia will take it upon herself to redo that assignment. Nia takes pride in her work and enjoys learning! Keep up the Excellent work Nia! You are truly a Malcolm X Scholar.
Mr. Collier's Fourth/Fifth Grade
Vashune is an excellent student. She produces excellent work. Even though my class is a fourth/fifth grade split, she consistently has some of the highest scores of all students. She is an excellent reader, contributes in classroom discussions, and she enthusiastically volunteers to help other students. Vashune understands the importance of her education, and makes excellent choices in the classroom.
Brittany is a hard worker. She really seems to enjoy writing. Not only does she complete all her assignments in a timely manner, she also has the initiative to start other writing projects on her own. Brittany always shows an excellent attitude, and is well liked by her peers. I am confident that it will be a pleasure to watch her develop as a scholar in the years beyond my classroom. She definitely demonstrates leadership qualities that will take her far.
Ms. Waddles Fifth Grade
Ariel is such a dedicated student! She comes to school prepared to learn and she completes her work accurately. Ariel takes pride in her education and understands the importance of achieving high-quality grades. She is an excellent reader and consistently scores As on tests. She enjoys participating in all classroom activities and contributes to discussions. She is an excellent listener and she consistently makes quality choices in the classroom. Ariel is a true Malcolm X Scholar!
Jeronte is such a hard worker! He always tries hard and consistently produces quality work. Jeronte excels in all academic areas, especially math. He takes pleasure in helping his classmates and is always ready to help out with classroom chores. He enjoys reading and is a major contributor to class discussions. Also, he continues to develop his knowledge while at home by always completing his homework and returning it on time. You're doing an awesome job, Jeronte!
Jalill is such an enthusiastic learner! He comes to school prepared to learn and he completes his work accurately. Jalill loves to read and to share interesting things he has discovered while reading. He enjoys school and he shows it everyday with a smile and a positive attitude! Jazmyne is such an asset to our classroom! She comes to school prepared to learn and consistently produces quality work. Jazmyne is an excellent reader and she is well on her way to becoming a wonderful writer. She tries hard everyday and has shown great improvement in her writing skills. Jazmyne is also learning to speak up so we can all hear her great ideas! She is an excellent listener and consistently makes quality choices in the classroom. Kudos to you, Jazmyne!
Mr. Mahan's Fifth/Sixth Grade
This quarter's Malcolm X Scholars in Mr. Mahan's class are JaMon, Donquevis, Bayaira, and ShaRon. These students demonstrate a positive and mature attitude towards learning and are thoroughly dependable. They are respectful and polite with others and have a positive influence on class activities and the overall classroom environment. They work hard, readily grasping new ideas and concepts while consistently taking pride in their work. Their achievement in this class is commendable. JaMon, Donquevis, Bayaira, and ShaRon do an outstanding job of meeting the high expectations we have in room 202.
Mrs. Cloy's Resource Room
Antwon is a hard worker with a great attitude toward school. He always comes to class on time and works hard on his assignments. Antwon is on his way to becoming a math whiz. He gets along well with others and is making new friends. Antwon is a first grade scholar. Way to go Antwon!
James is one of our most improved students. He always does over and above his daily assignment. He is also a good work buddy for the younger student. All the students like working with James. He also maintained a "B" average in spelling. He also enjoys participating in all classroom activities.Keep up the good work James.
Mrs. Major's Reading Support
Chetara is making progress in reading every day! She began her first grade year needing extra help with her letters and letter sounds. However, she listened carefully and participated fully in our reading sessions each and every week. Because of this, she now knows all of her letters and her letter sounds. She is able to put letters together and to make words. She is reading right where she should be and no longer needs extra help in reading. Congratulations Chetara on being a reading scholar!
Ms. Tarpeh's Math Support
Kenneth is a third grade student in Mrs. Burton's class. I taught mathematics to Kenneth in a small group setting for approximately two months. During that time Kenneth presented himself as an eager and enthusiastic learner. He always did well on the math concepts presented to him. He caught on to place value quickly and his multiplication facts. Kenneth did so well that he placed out of small group math instruction.
