Library Cards
The Capital Area District Library is helping us leap into March is Reading Month at a kick-off assembly on Leap Day, February 29,2008. We welcome the CADL staff as they provide each student with a Library Card.
Be sure to ask your child about the card and help them to use it. Check out the great library with all it has to offer. Turn this over and find out more info on the Capital Area Libraries.
Did someone say Pizza??
That is right! Help your child be at the pizza party on Friday, Mar. 28th!
- Make reading a habit this month for your child.
- Help your child set aside 20 minutes each day during the week to read at home.
- Complete the reading log that is sent home in this packet by marking an X on the days your child reads. (Younger students can be read to by a parent, sibling, or other person.)
- Your child must read 19 of the 27 days on the log in order to qualify for the party.
- Return the reading log on Thurs. Mar. 27th so your child can get credit for the month's reading!

Reading Support at Shabazz Academy - Mrs. Major
The students of Shabazz Academy benefit greatly from additional support in reading instruction through Title I funding. Students qualify for services based on their results on various reading assessments. These at-risk students meet individually and/or in small groups twice a week for approximately 40 minutes with Mrs. Major, the reading specialist. Students gain confidence as well as acquire new reading skills by being immersed in language activities. By engaging students with material at their own instructional level, their progress in enhanced.
