Ms. Jones' 4th Grade Class

For the next six weeks we will be working hard to prepare for the October MEAP testing. Curriculum will focus largely on reviewing concepts learned in third grade, focusing on math, reading, and writing.

Math: We have begun our multiplication/division unit. You can help your child by studying math facts with them each night. Flash cards are for sale at many dollar stores in addition through division. Mrs. Gregory is also co-teaching a fraction unit with me, whole group. (Please take advantage of free after school tutoring for your child in math.)

Science: We are beginning our unit on electricity and energy. Students will be offered many hands on opportunities to learn and explore in this unit. Fourth grade is planning a field trip to the Detroit Science Museum. Details will be announced. We are beginning our unit on electricity and energy. Reading: We are beginning our study of the Michigan Genre Project genres of fantasy, tall tales, etc. I am working with students in differentiated groups on leveled books daily to improve on individual needs in reading. We continue to work on literature and language arts skills from our Basil books as a whole group. (Please take advantage of free after school tutoring for your child in reading.)

Writing: We are beginning our study of the Michigan Genre Project genres of fantasy, tall tales, etc. I am encouraging students to use this work as their Langston Hughes writing piece due to time crunch and not wishing to wait until the last minute to write this piece. Students will be working with Ms. Vaughn, our art teacher, to complete covers and illustrations.

Social Studies: We are wrapping up our Make a Difference unit in which each student chose a public issue/concern to research and present through visual and written media. Completed informational posters will be displayed in the hallway.

Thank You For All You Do!
