Mrs. Underhill's 1st Grade

Dear Parents:

Happy February! Can you believe how fast the school year is going? Before you know it, we'll be home for Spring break.

Our class continues to make progress in all subjects. For math, your child is doing 2 digits on the top& 2 digits on the bottom, addition problems. Many of them can complete 50 addition problems in less than 3 minutes.

In reading, we are starting our 3rd set of sight-words. I sent the words home with your child. Please continue to work on these words. We use these words daily as we write sentences in class.

As you know, Valentines Day is on Friday. We would love for you to send a snack for our Valentine's party. We will start our celebration around 2:00. Stop by and say hello. Many of you have asked for a list of the students in order to address the valentine cards. In first grade, many of the students cannot read each other's name. Therefore, we address the cards, "To my friend, From (your child's name). This makes it easier for your child to pass out his/her cards.

Continue to sign the Monday folders. Homework is still being sent home on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Twenty minutes of reading & review of spelling words should take place each night.

We are celebrating, "Black History Month". Take time to schedule a day to stop by Shabazz and see the school's Black History decorations. Also, if you have time, we would love for you to share information with us about your favorite African American Leader.
