November Newsletter

Mrs. Underhill's 1st Grade

Dear Parents:

Happy November! Many thanks goes out to all the parents who came out and chaperoned our field trip to Uncle John's Cider Mill. We had almost 50 students and at least 11 parents. The children really enjoyed themselves, learning about making apple cider and hearing the story of Johnny Appleseed. They also liked the playground, doughnuts and cider.

We would also like to thank our parents for the wonderful treats and supplies sent during the month of October. Your continued gifts are appreciated by us and all the students.

By this time, you should have received information on conferences being held on November 6, 2008. If not, please contact us as soon as possible. We hope to set a record by receiving the most parents at the first conference of the school year. Here are some of the things we will discuss at conference: reading levels, math abilities, spelling strategies, science, social studies, monthly reading logs, and assessments results.

In science we are learning about living things. We are expecting a visit from Woldumar Nature Center this month. Information will be sent home in advance, just in case you would like to join us as we learn about Michigan animals.

Please feel free to stop by and visit your child in the classroom. Your visit shows your child that you think school is important and that you are supporting them as they work hard each day. It also gives them a chance to feel important because their friends will see you working in the classroom.

Don't forget to VOTE! The students will be voting also.

We hope to see you at conference. Please let us know if you will not be able to attend your child's conference so we can reschedule you for another day.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Underhill & Mr. Collier
