Mr. Collier's 1st Grade
Dear Parents
Where has the school year gone? We are in the final stretch but there is still much to do. We have one month remaining to complete our education requirements and we have numerous fun end of the year activities planned. Some of those activities include field trips to Binder Park Zoo and Michigan Adventure, Malcolm X celebration, and Field Day. Please see May dates to remember below. We are also completing the Iowa test and other year end assessments this month.
I would like to congratulate the third quarter 2009 - 2010, Malcolm X scholars. These students come to school every day ready to learn. They consistently grasp new material and turn in assignments. They have also demonstrated leadership by helping others in the classroom and being a good citizen. Kentrea, Kentrice, Shayla, Nateyla, and Zyon have been selected for all three marking period. We congratulate Rachel, and Daryl for the third marking period selection. Special recognition for Rachel for 4th place in the Spelling Bee at Michigan State May 8th 2010.
English Language Arts
We have completed Theme 6 "Animal Adventures" in our reading series. The next Theme we will work on is entitled "Our Earth". We are continuing to emphasize that our students practice their writing. Please continue to encourage them to write their spelling words in complete sentences and return in their Monday Folders.
Math
We are working addition facts through 20. Some of the strategies they will use are 10 frames, doubles, and double plus one. Please see Monday folder for examples.
