Malcolm X Week 2012 - Artist In-Residence Mr. Ricky Powell
Shabazz Public School Academy will hold it's 2012 Malcolm X Week Celebration activities May 18-25, 2012. A highlight of this year's celebration is the appearance of the Academy's 2012 Malcolm X Week artist in-residence, Mr. Rickey Powell, actor, singer, and dancer from Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. Powell, a multi-talented performer has appeared on Broadway and Off- Broadway productions of The Wiz, Mama, I Want to Sing, and regional performances of Hello Dolly, Finians Rainbow, How Now Dow Jones, and Kiss Me Kate, among others. He has performed internationally as well, appearing in performances in Italy, Spain, Germany, and Canada. Mr. Powell will give a performance titled " On My Journey Now", which is an original dramatic compilation of vignettes from pre-slavery to civil rights. This event will take place from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the auditorium of Lansing, Michigan's Downtown Library located at 401 South Capitol Avenue. This free performance is opened to the public.

Consequently, we embrace an Afro-Centric approach to all of our student-centered initiatives.
